l/Activity only runs builds that are still current. When it starts, when your Mac wakes and every few hours, it asks lslash.app for a signed statement of the oldest build that is still supported. The request contains a random number and nothing else.
On a new installation the check has to succeed once, so the first launch needs a connection.
After every successful check you can be offline for up to seven days. Settings → General shows the date.
If the seven days run out, or your build becomes too old, the app finishes any cleanup, export or recording in progress, saves it, and then asks you to connect or update. Nothing is deleted.

Staying up to date
Updates are signed, and they come from lslash.app. Check by hand with l/Activity → Check for Updates… whenever you like.
In Settings → General → l/Activity updates you can also let the app check about once a day, and download and install an update when you quit. Only the app is replaced. Your settings, saved scans and recordings stay in their folder.

Motion and lightHow each page is staged: its entrance, lighting and texture
MotionReduced removes the entrance, rolling numerals, and easing on arcs and bars. Reduce Motion in macOS always wins.
FullReduced
Scene lighting follows loadThe page’s key light brightens with its main reading. Off keeps a steady light.
Bloom on live marksA soft glow on arcs, lines and the newest sample. Dark appearance only.
Film grainA static texture that prevents banding in dark gradients.
Record letterboxBars frame the stage while a session records.
None of these animate continuously. Motion plays once on entry or when a reading changes; a hidden or minimised window draws nothing.

Allow local CLI and MCP reads
Shares current resource readings, process names and recent diagnostic titles with tools you choose to run as your user. Off by default. No control commands, network listener, paths, arguments or environment values.
Updates at most every 5 seconds while monitoring runs; pause, disable or quit revokes the snapshot. The CLI refuses data older than 20 seconds.
Quit l/Activity, then copy its data folder to the same place on the new Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/app.activity.desktop for a copy kept in Applications. Install the app there and open it. macOS asks for permissions again on the new Mac, because it grants them per computer.
