Record a slowdown, then compare before and after
Capture a stretch of work in full detail, replay it, and set it beside a second recording.
- Time
- 6 minutes
- Steps

What you need
- l/Activity open, with Monitor on.
- Something you can repeat: an export, a build, opening a large file.
Steps
Step 1. Start recording
Press ⇧⌘R, or click Record in the title bar. Black bars close in on the stage with a running clock, and the bottom of the window shows REC. Recording works from any page.

Two recordings rarely start at the same instant. In Match comparison intervals, set a Start for each, by hand or with Use Marker, and a Duration of up to 300 seconds. Changes within selected intervals then shows the difference for the Mac and for each app, in percentage points.

02Good to know
The small print, in plain words
Note1 / 4
Limits
A recording stops by itself at the first limit it reaches: 24 hours and 2 GiB by default. You can change both in Settings → History & Recording. Only one recording runs at a time.
Note2 / 4
If something goes wrong mid-recording
Samples are written as they arrive. If the app or the Mac stops unexpectedly, the recording is kept up to that point and marked Interrupted.
Note3 / 4
Read an export before you send it
Exports include program paths, process owners and interface names.
Note4 / 4
Nothing is deleted behind your back
Recordings are never removed automatically. Move to Session Trash moves one into a Trash folder inside the app's own data, where it stays until you delete it.
03Keep going
